These crystals vary in color from brown, yellow to clear. The morphology varies from needles, hexagonal, whetstone forms, rosettes, or rhombic plates. Vary more in morphology than any other type of crystals found in urine. Polarized light show strong birefringence.
The findings of uric acid crystals may be extremely pathological or it may be only normal. The pathology demonstrating uric acid crystals are found in increased body metabolism such as high temperature or often in leukemias, some renal tubular diseases, and gout. Increased uric acid denotes increased purine metabolism.
